Although this is not exactly your situation, I usually dip my reeds in water, just dip them in a cup of water or pass them under a running faucet or water fountain and put them back in the reed case before I leave my apartment, or wherever I am, on the way to a gig. When I arrive (30min or an hour later), the reeds are at the right moisture level to play and if they are slightly drier than I'd like, I dip them in water when I arrive and wait a couple of minutes.
The key to prevent mold is to make sure that your reed case is not water tight. I prefer leather covered wooden reed cases like the kind Loree, Glotin and Rigotti make. These keep the reeds from drying out too quickly so that they are ready to play when you get to your gig, but will allow the reeds to dry completely given enough time. A plastic or metal case would work, but it would be best to put some holes in it to allow some air to get in.
