"dunno what they call white note no stick with brackets, haven't seen one of those in any band music so far"
The Breve is called a 'Double whole note' (8 crotchets/quarter notes long) - but mainly found in Renaissance and early Baroque music.
"minim, breve, semi-breve, crotchet, quaver, semiquaver, demisemiquaver"
Almost right - breve (8), semi-breve (4), minim (2), crotchet (1), quaver, semiquaver, demisemiquaver
Then there's the 'Lunga' which is 16 quavers long (ermmm... would that be a 'Double double whole note' or 'Quadrupal whole note'?) - it is rectangular like the Breve, but with a tail - but again, only really used in early music.
