After reading reviews posted here and seeing the excellent price, I got all excited about the Barrington 801 and ordered one a while back. I had to return it due to poor alignment (the keys didn't line up correctly down the oboe). Fortunately I could drive to the place that sold it and exchange it. Three of the four in-stock instruments had the same problem and were pulled out of inventory. I took the one remaining instrument home only to have pads fall out and leaks occur. I returned it for good and am staying with my rental for a while. I believe I just had bad luck with regard to this brand - others have been delighted with their Barrington purchase. My advice would be to try to test the instrument prior to buying (take music and a tuner). If this is not possible, specifically request that a member of the tech team run it through its paces before shipping. Also, check with local repair shops and see if they service Barrington oboes - mine doesn't - only Fox, Yamaha, Loree, etc. I haven't given up on the Barrington - too many good things said about it. I just want to take my time and look at all of my options.
