Thut-moo-SOS -- learning how to daintily tongue delicate tiny reed gives new meaning to tongue-wagging

The point is the reed must stop vibrating, what makes it vibrate? Stop doing that, reed stops vibrating, yes?

Basic stop secret is co-ordinated split second timing of both momentary breath-stop and tip o' tongue stop, or maybe a lip-stop if jazzing it

... HOOever, the way to stop any note depends a lot on how you want to expressively shape that note, and what dynamic shape it's in when it's time to stop it, is it sffz or ppp, a slur-off, dim, cresc, swell, whatever ... so can stop in different ways to suit situation

<<So I experimented to see how I stop the tone when I sing, and it's by my larynx, not by just "stopping blowing">>

(singer clearing throat) ... del-eg-ate air support and breath management downstairs to basso ribcage and ab muscles, don't pass buck to larynx, it has to be free to vibrate, not choke air flow, ditto ditto teetoo on oboe, think open deep throat -- like when you're singing in best power range -- adjust air flow and air pressure from belt-line, that sure cinched a few inches for me, i tell ya :-)

<<So I tried using a glottal stop with the back of my tongue--"kkk"--to stop the tone, and it's just weird, and is not really working>>

yeah, bummer, but that's kkkwacking reed much too far back on tongue anyway, lick ice-cream daintily on very tip of tongue instead, dee-lish

Fiddlesticks and burnt crumpets to alma mater Rothwell, it's OK to use tongue-stop by itself, it works fine when used appropriately on the right kind of end notes; ditto comment for breath stop by itself -- the decision is knowing when to do what, and the trick is toning body parts to be coordinated well enough to do it
