After 1 day of 15 mins on 30 mins off trying to "crow" the reed and start training myself away from taking that massive breath of air. I am getting what seems to be D5 or so out of the reed, I am trying to hold that pitch for 8 counts at 88 beats per min. Holding the reed with my thumb and index finger, lifting the upper lift to get enough air for the next 8 counts.

This is way more fun than I have anticipated. Speaking of fun, being an engineer and all.

I have sorta memorized the fingering and here's my summary from an engineering perspective, please correct me if I'm wrong.

The oboe's natural's key is D.

So the first octave, from D4 to Bb3, we start with D, add C# key, then C. For B, we hold the C fingering and add the B, then Bb.

From D to B, remove each finger from the default 123|123. For D#/Eb add the Eb key, either from left or right hand. F is E + right F, or left F. G#/Ab is G + G#. A#/Bb is unique, as is C5. C#-D#/Eb is same as lower octave but with half -open 1.

E5-G#/Ab is same fingering but with I key.

A5-C6 is same fingering but with II key.

Thank you again for the tip.
