Yeah, I too sing, and the biggest difference in breathing between singing and playing the oboe is the desperate need to breathe OUT with the oboe--you just cannot take those big gut-filling abdominal breaths that you can with singing, because the stale air trapped in your lungs after a few measures (not used up yet, because the oboe's airflow doesn't need it) will trigger your "I'm suffocating!" reflex and you'll be totally miserable.
And you learn to exhale sometimes in the pauses, instead of inhaling. Instead of taking those little catch-breaths like with singing, you learn to occasionally "whoof" out a little exhalation, if you realize you've still got too much CO2 in there.
