I tried every Howarth in their booth and even managed to play on a couple folks brought to the sight-reading sessions. I refer to IDRS in AZ a few years ago.
With the exception of the desert drying things out quickly and causing a few adjustment issues for instruments from more humid places, which were easily and quickly fixed by the Howarth folks on the spot, I would have/could have performed on them the same day. I do not know their various models but whatever they were, I was really impressed. (Reformed former Loree player/bigot.)
But that is also true of a few other oboes I tired.
Only the student models of other makers were something I'd reject.
I might even consider a fully synthetic oboe. The couple I tried were great.
