If you are willing to travel, consider the IDRS convention ( this year in NY, I think)
Last one I attended I tried as many oboes as I could put my hands on.
Good news was how great several makes were..... Howarth, Marigeaux, Loree, Yamaha, Covey ( S personal favorite... I have 2) and some of the other models.
All in all, I was very impressed by Howarth.
If I ever need a new oboe and cannot get a Covey, I think I'll go Howarth.
The long wait lists for Laubin and Hiniker, both fabulous, rule them out for me.
Good time to be alive in the oboe world. Many, many great choices.
Not so true 40 years ago when I started, but today is wonderful in terms of choices.
