Drew,
This is a tricky question since one's oboe may respond differently in the upper registers ... that's why there are alternate fingerings for some many notes. Furthermore, it is so difficult to get a "perfect" reed to play well in every regard.
For example, the Marigaux 901 has an interesting relationship between it's high D and Eb. I had my diamond adjusted with wax to "rob from the D to give to the Eb and have the note play easier and with better resonance and pitch stability.
So at times one must "tune" their instrument for such quirks.
Having said that .... I control the sharpness of my reeds by the cut between the heart and the tip at the " corners" of the reed. I make sure there is a clear/clean delineation at that point.
In my reed style and make of oboe if the tip/heart has too much of a blend there ... the reed will play sharp.
The other factors of course are the sharper tip and gouge of the cane.
I can't stress enough my own experience in this regard. When I had a custom gouger blade made for my staple size, tie length, shaper tip and make of Oboe .... almost all non-player of intonation problems disappeared.
Once again ... the extreme upper register is affected by so many variables.
