I have some fresh pictures - this one reed was tied yesterday and scraped today. I used a $5 dollar razor style knife my dad gave me (he is a retired artist, always has a very inexpensive source for carving stuff).
This reed is amazing to me - it is the reed pictured with the gold bead tied on. Also tried tatting a little decoration to make it "prettier" but that needs to come off. Please disregard the extraneous thread. The bead is for cane I.D. I left lots of cane on the heart area, and basically scraped the windows both directions, really defined the tip. This reed sounds good. It plays in tune and crows a C.
The second reed was tied on a bit crooked, so I re-tied it and it still came out crooked, but the reed plays really great. It crows a B but plays in tune.
