Yep, exactly what I've been doing over the past year. I didn't get very far, cause I couldn't make a playable reed. Finally I'm getting the things to seal and play rather nicely, on two different shapes so far. Will work on two other shapes from cane I have left over in the next week. A major concern in my choosing a shape to continually use is the ability to play a reed made of that shape after 10 to 15 minutes of it sitting out of my mouth. I am a reed doubler, and hope to one day perform oboe at a high level, under a high stage. My reeds must be able to sit for some time, and then be played with as much ease as possible. I find the Brannon X shape needs some soaking time before it can be played. The Sansom +3 responds very well after it sits. I am having a problem with pitch in the upper register with the Sansom +3, but I feel I will be able to solve that much more easily than the soaking problem.
