Even if you avoid tendonitis, the other long term problem you might encounter is damage to the joint at the base of your thumb. At the end of a long career I can no longer support the weight of my oboe or EH for any length of time without severe pain.
The best solution I have found, especially for the EH, is the W.R.I.S.T. instrument support. See below for a demo by the late, lamented Grover Schiltz.

I've used this and find it superior to the PHRED, since it doesn't lock you into quite as rigid a relationship with your chair.
And I echo the above comments: ask your doctor or physical therapist to recommend a therapist familiar with musician's problems. It'a a sub-specialty that is growing rapidly.
You will be dealing with this problem for a long time and nothing will change except your approach to it. The sooner you arrive at a solution, the less long term damage you will have.
Good luck!
