Thanks for all the thoughts. I'm not entirely convinced that playing on a softer reed will help - I've tried it, and actually, I seem to get just as tired as my lips are 'fighting' the reed to make it do what I want. Maybe that reed was *too* soft....
I also haven't changed my technique radically or anything so would be surprised if I've suddenly starting tensing up in strange ways that I didn't used to a year ago (when I wasn't having this problem). But I will try and do the 10 minute long note practice (though I WILL hate every damn minute of it....)
Robin, I like the sound of your blow-the-begeebers technique but as I go to work by train it's probably not an option :-D . But I am tempted to just sit at my desk with my reed in my mouth so it gets used to being there.
