I just keep the reed on the mandrel (more stable support) and turn both hands as needed. As you get more comfortable with the knife (and fine honing it), you will be able to hold it with just your fingertips, which will allow for more angles.
I should not comment on the blog post thing. I can only say that when I do put a link here, it is in the hopes that it will somehow be useful or otherwise interesting to the rest of the readership here... that is really not up to me to say - no complaints yet, but maybe people are just polite!
