jhoyla, thanks the IDRS links. My daughter's a member so we'll read them.
My brother the former oboe professional also studied in Germany on a Fulbright and has been giving my daughter some lessons. He didn't seem to think that adopting a European or regional sound in Europe was very difficult to do. He did recommend that my daughter spend more than one year studying in Europe though if she wants to work there. Then again, he grew up listening to Heinz Holliger recordings, so he can easily play both "German" and US styles.
I have been checking the musicalchairs website just to see what's required and who can audition. It's a very useful site for information.
My daughter has several ideas. She is an equal, or better, classical sax player than she is an oboe player--she wins concerto competitions on both--and is also interested in playing multiple instruments in London, Broadway musical pit orchestras. So she also wants to do sax soloing and sax quartets.
Which US conservatories would give a player an automatic admission to a European orchestra audition? Or is a degree in Europe necessary?
