One day (hopefully in the not-too-distant future), I would love to own my own cor anglais. Hardly anyone owns one here (who would let me play it, anyway), and there's none to be borrowed or hired, so owning my own is the only true way of getting to play it.
I don't have a whole lot of call to play one, mostly band works with a cor part, or at our annual orchestra camp. And I don't want to spend too much money (it seems a bit odd to spend as much or more than I paid for my oboe on an instrument that wouldnt get played as much), possibly around the $4000 or less mark.
Given its limited playing time, I figure my options are either a Fox 555 (all plastic, new or used) or something older, say 1970s or 80s, that has been played in somewhat and is less likely to crack. Would the Fox limit me in any way based on how I would use it?
Anyway, just dreaming and wondering what others thoughts are!
