Ohh.... I'm sure the big bucks that fund opera at the Met and so on will not want to lose their status symbols and tax evasion potential.
Why do you think You-Tube is so very well promoted: no more need to fund arts production, they can produce and broadcast themselves! Yet, international conductors and soloists will continue to get outrageous benefits for appearing once.
Is this wrongful? I cannot say yes... the issue is just too big.
What can very well happen is the re-elitism of the arts. Well, let's face it, the general population is only given the illusion that it can climb the "social ladder". You, Cooper, as a DMA student enjoy a status that will be denied those who are unable or unwilling to travel the same path... similar to me as an M.A.Sc. (Master of Applied Sciences). Just think about how hard it is for Joe/Jane to become a college student in the U.S.A.... if I were wrong, there would not be coming to McGill and other Canadian Universities and pay 5 times the tuition Canadians pay!
The idea is that if we "play ball" with the corporate powers that be, we might be uplifted. If we don't, then we will be pushed down to the level of everyday Joe/Jane who is only appreciated if we can buy and follow, not offer and propose.
