Thanks for the tips, guys. Susan, it's not too late - it's still night time here!
I normally keep a piece of cigarette paper in the 1st 8ve key as it tends to stick (I know I need the pad changed!), but I have swabbed and put cigarette papers under the second 8ve key, the trill keys and the C vent.
On experimenting, I realised that the older reeds I was playing on were sharp, and as I was practising with Smart Music, I pulled them out a fraction. The new reed didn't bubble as it was A440 and I didn't need to pull it out. Coincidence? I don't normally have that problem if I ever need to pull out very slightly.
I do need my oboe serviced, though, and we are heading to Illinois in about 7 weeks for my husband's Masters, so if anyone knows of a good repairer either in Chicago or the UIUC area (Urbana-Champaign), I'd appreciate the tip!
