I have the band championship solos competition tomorrow, and I am playing the first two movements of the Cimarosa. While practising tonight, I have come across a small problem that I hope will resolve overnight, but if not, it would be wonderful to know why its happening and what I can do to solve it!
I have been making sure I have an assortment of reeds good for tomorrow, and have had some issues with notes that seem to bubble when they are played, notably C (third space), and occasionally B and the G below that.
I figured it was a reed issue, but it seems to be happening on all my reeds, so I swabbed the top joint thoroughly and under the C pad (although the C pad was clear of condensation), and it still kept going. I have had it do it before, but usually goes away once the reed has warmed up for a few minutes. It got better, but always seemed to sneak back in, mostly during softer passages.
I don't generally soak my reeds in water first, so I don't think it's excess moisture even though it sounds like it.
My last approach for the night is to try a brand new reed - not something I'd want to perform with however!
Any thoughts greatly appreciated!
