Hi Susan,
Yes, the people I work with are a special group. I still can't believe that they did this and that I have an oboe in my home.
I plan on getting oboe specific music ASAP. The suggestion about the Christmas music is especially helpful as I enjoy that type of music very much.
I had some success on my first outing with the oboe, but during the second session success eluded me. The sounds I made on that occasion resembled a flock of geese preparing for their southward trek. Forming the embouchure on an oboe is worlds apart from my clarinet. Will defintely need professional help to master that.
Looking into the use of other reeds as you suggested. A little experimentation will probably be very beneficial. What is best for a beginner to start out with? Soft? Medium? Or hard reeds? Should I just go for a potpourri and see what develops?
Thank you for taking the time to offer your insights. They will prove to be very useful. I'll let you know how things progress.
Take care and I'll "speak" with you soon.
Chuck
