Dear kroboe,
I agree with you on it being never too late to start something. We need challenges and learning to play the oboe at this stage in my life is certainly that.
After my first couple of practice sessions I see what you mean about enlisting the aid of a teacher. It's a beautiful sounding instrument when you know what you are doing and right now it doesn't sound all that beautiful (at least I can't hear the beauty over the goose honking).
After trying to improve my breath control I see just how "precise" one has to be in technique to achieve some modicum of success. I will definitely need help with that and intend to pursue.
