You do have the option of part exchanging as you upgrade, so say you start out on a plastic Fox 333 (for example) which is an intermediate model and later decide to upgrade to a 330 (which is plastic and has almost everything found on a pro model) or a 300 (which is a plastic pro model) or any other make of pro model of your choice (eg. Buffet, Fossati, Howarth, Loree, Marigaux, Patricola, Rigoutat, Yamaha, etc.), you should be able to part exchange your previous instrument against any pro model.
If you plan on doing a lot of outdoors playing, don't use a wooden oboe for that - so it may be worthwhile keeping your plastic instrument or getting a plastic one (such as a Fox 300) for these purposes and also for when your No.1 oboe has to go in for a service so you won't be without in the time it's away for.
