Thanks all for your encouragement, I can read nothing else in there.
Craig, your idea of recording a warm-up session might be very revealing: I'll think about it and give it a go on both good and bad reeds if only for a demonstration of the process.
I never considered staple exercises as a warm-up: thanks for that one! I can actually do that while taking my wife to her photo-shoots
=> 1. NOT WHILE DRIVING: while waiting in the parking lot so I don't accidentally swallow it and cause a major pile-up on the highway!
=> 2. Never underestimate the importance of both hands on the wheel and full attention on the road!
And your observation is uncanny in its timing: in the last "takes" of those recordings, I had observed that my breathing was constrained: if I take really deep breaths (before playing) to the point of feeling slight pain in the sides, then my sound seems to be easier... the tuning too.
