This is a very interesting thread.
I'm still experimenting, but it seems that my Lorée prefers reeds at 70mm or less, although I have had excellent reeds at 73+mm.
Staple length: still experimenting. So far my preference is for opening, not length:
-- absolute favourite Chiarugi #3 (46mm)
--- almost equivalent to Stevens #3 thinwall
-- 2nd favourite Pisoni 47 or 48mm
-- dislike: Lorée, Glotin, those sent from Laubin
=> I am currently filing down Laubin & other staples to 45mm from the top to see what it does.
Shapers: I get great reeds from Kunibert Michel 725
I get very good reeds with and RDG-1 and RDG#2
=> surprizingly good results with Kunibert Michel 750 (d'amore) on both oboe and d'amore staples.... used in oboe!
