You'd probably have to use the 2nd 8ve for the upper Bb and C as rolling on and off the thumbplate for these notes will be awkward, so your best bet is to use the 2nd 8ve touch from A upwards to free up your left thumb. The side key is only used for trills (Ab-Bb, A-Bb and B-C) on thumbplate systems.

Not a problem on conservatoire or dual systems where you can keep the left thumb held down on both the back 8ve and thumbplate and put down RH1 for the upper Bb and C.

I haven't played thumbplate system since the '80s having gone over to dual system where I primarily use conservatoire fingerings for Bb and C - only ever using the thumbplate fingerings for arpeggios or intervals such as G-Bb or A-C where I find it easier to release the thumbplate instead of putting down RH1 for the Bb or C in these instances.
