Since I'm a *former* clarinetist, I have a lot of clarinet literature laying around. One of the things I used to play on clarinet was a Richard Stoltzman improvisational arrangement of "Amazing Grace" -- very jazz-like.
I transcribed it for oboe, and it lays really, really well. One of these nights, I'm going to take the oboe to a local dive where there is a great improvising pianist and try it out -- BEFORE my martini.
