 Re: Buying used oboe

Thanks for your fast answers! I really like the fact that people who are more experienced than me in such matters could give me advice on this ;-)

Mmm...I was already thinking that the Fossati would be a better guess than the Noblet. I cannot find a good recommendation of the Noblet oboes anywhere. Looking at the pictures online, I guess the oboe would be part of the Fossati J-series. The owner is selling his oboe for 450 dollars, claiming a new one would cost 3.490 dollars?! He learnt to play the oboe and decided not to continue with it. A professional looked at it in 2009 and he did not use his oboe since.

I did sent him an email to ask if he had to repair the oboe before (cracks, etc.) but he didn't reply to me yet. I also asked him to tell me if he could confirm that this oboe belongs to the J-series. Once I get extra information, I'll be able to tell you some more about the oboe. The price seems very reasonable to me, knowing that here in Europe a used oboe normally costs between 1100-1800 dollars. I'm not talking about professional instruments, but beginner-intermediate level of course. I know that it would be better to rent an instrument, but here it's rather difficult to rent an instrument if you are involved in a music school. That's why I rather want to buy an instrument, play on it for a year, continue my progress and buy a better (more professional) one in 2011/2012.
