jhoyla, it sounds like you are sort of where I was with my EH reeds 5 months ago. Great response, great intonation, shallow sound. I haven't figured out all the secrets, yet, but I ended up making shorter tips, with a steeper blend and a bit more cane in the center of the tip. Also, less of a contrast between heart and back--a strong spine throughout, but only subtly thicker in the heart compared to the back. Getting the same response and proper intonation with all that is still, for me, somewhat elusive, although this evening I was doing pretty well. I have had good luck with the Weber shape, which is a little narrower than some of the others I've tried--it lets me thin down the heart more without going flat. I have some great sounding reeds with the wider Rigotti shape, but I can only play by myself with them, as they're too much work to keep up to pitch.
Of course, I'm no expert in making oboe OR EH reeds, so don't put too much stock in what I write. I'm still learning, too.
