If you're used to playing saxes that only have the back 8ve key, then with auto 8v oboes you shouldn't have a problem.

My Marigaux d'amore is full German spec, but as I'm use to semi-auto 8ves, I'd go for the 2nd 8ve key (for LH1 middle joint) for 8ve leaps involving A-C and hit the trill key overlevers instead. So I had a 2nd 8ve touch fitted and this duplicates the back 8ve key, but now I can go for those 8ve A-C leaps using the LH1 touch without the embarrassment.

So a 2nd 8ve touch can always be fitted to this part of the mechanism (where the 2nd 8ve key is normally located) if you're used to semi-auto oboes and want this key for security.

The opinions I express are my own.
