Hi,
I just received 2 Marigaux oboes: 901 and the M2.
To my surprise - the 901 model had a superior scale with consistent tonal quality on each note and the most sweet upper register.
The M2's scale was not even - I was surprised because I assumed the new design would improve the scale. I guess it really depends on each individual instrument. Although, the M2 has some more resonance - it also has more spread in the sound. Now I realize that each Oboe is unique - so it's difficult to infer whether the observations apply to all the same models.
This particular 901 is definitely a contender. I just have one hesitation. I wish it had little more projection. All my reeds (within their tonal characteristic) have the same sweetness and depth with the Oboe.
Question: Would the Oboe become more resonant as it breaks in .......?
