Hi,
I just received two oboes on trial - a Fossati Artiste and a Yamaha 841.
Here's the feedback. I played the Oboes with a variety of reeds.
I did not care for the Fossati. The timbre/tone of the instrument was very light - I did not feel a central core in the sound. The scale was average at best.
The Yamaha has a lovely ringing timbre/tone. However, the sound is "boxed in" for example, I was not able to get the same dynamic expansion as well as the ability to shape my sound with this instrument as I do on my Loree. Furthermore, it has a "funky" C# - and the diamond might be the culprit.
Assuming the C# is adjusted - the Yamaha would be a very good choice for an advanced student buying their first professional oboe.
Tomorrow I receive the Marigaux oboes. I'll keep the BB informed.
It has been a year now .................. and so far .............. nothing extraordinary has come my way.
