I tried the M2 and the marigaux 2001 side by side about five years ago. The M2 had a very different character than the 2001. For my tastes I purchased the 2001 (I already owned another 2001). There may have been changes to the model since my experience. Back then the 2001 had everything I wanted; the M2 was a touch brighter in tone, though fascinating in concept.
