Thanks for the help and information.
I find that my optimum tip length is approximately 3 mm along the sides and 2 mm at the center of the tip starting from the end of the triangular blend.
I find that with my oboe this tip length creates more focus and stability in the upper register.
My oboe requires this ...................
I agree the most difficult and skilled part of the process is the slope/blend from heart to tip! You need a very very very sharp knife ............. and you need to view the tip from two perspectives: a back light to see through and an opaque light to view the surface. I also like to feel the reed with my fingers!
