That was new to me, thanks. Though I wouldn't try do to it myself, it is good to know that the oboe - even a plastic one - can be maintained without risking the structure of the instrument as the pillars/posts stay fixed on it. In case of a plastic oboe, there is less chance that the pillars will have to come off, as there will be no cracks.
There is a second reason for me to ask that question. Though I don't consider it a must-have, I'm thinking of having one of these fixed on my future oboe:

I guess that any wooden oboe would take this thumbrest without a problem, I'm not 100% sure about the Greenline/Altu. Do you guys think it is ok to put one on a plastic oboe?
I'm not even sure if it's a recommendable thing to do, but I think that it may well be. I do feel muscle strain sometimes after playing the oboe, and I'm pretty sure it isn't just because of the weight.

PS. I did check my posture/stance and the way I rest it on my thumb with my teacher and various books. It probably has something to do with my work, combined with a lot of oboe practice. I work in IT so I get to handle the keyboard & mouse a lot.
