Hi vboboe,
I reckon that is probably be the case; I can well imagine that my teacher wants me to learn the basic stuff first. Though I'm not sure if that would be harder to do on the Marigaux. I'm guessing/hoping not, but I could be wrong. You mentioned that the automatic oboe won't let me do the basic transition techniques, could you elaborate on that please?
I'm very lucky to have her as a teacher, she has been playing this instrument for almost 30 years and plays professionally in several orchestras.
Also, I'm not looking to do advanced stuff, I just want to get very good keywork in the sense that better quality keywork is easier to play on. Being able to produce a nicer sound is a great bonus, that I would benefit from every day I pick up the oboe.
Renting the Marigaux costs about the same as renting the Fossati. There is one catch though. I have to buy an oboe - any, it doesn't have to be this Marigaux - from this shop. Half of the rent will be returned if I do. Should I choose not to buy any, the Marigaux will turn out twice as expensive as the Fossati, because I won't get a refund then. The main difference being that the Fossati is rented from the musicschool, and no part of the rent will be restituted because they don't sell oboes.
