Hi Everyone

For Alphons - I've always preferred Loree Cors, but have never really got into Loree Oboes. They just make a different sound to what I'm used to. But I'm fully aware there are loads of great players in America and some in Europe making beautiful sounds on these instruments. By the way, it must be nice to own an Oboe from the great Werner Herbers. Having an Oboe blown in by a top player will make a big difference to how it performs. Also, thanks for your kind words about my Cor playing. Such comments are always appreciated.

For Chris P - yes, I noticed the absence of the B-C link which I would definitely prefer to have, though this Oboe has good, stable 1st octave F sharps and Gs, anyway. And the Thumbplate will need to be added, with the 3rd octave key being re-positioned to suit the position of the Thumbplate. Thanks for reminding me that it makes sense to do all three things at the same time to facilitate the fitting and plating process. Such things are easy to overlook.

For Ehafb - you must be referring to my friend Mary James. She and I flew over to Paris about 5 years ago to select the Oboe that she eventually bought. For one reason or another she sold it on and bought a Sound Alchemy Oboe. I remember borrowing that Buffet from her and recording Wagner's Siegfried Idyll with my orchestra, as I knew it had a particularly nice sound. Had I known that she intended to sell it, I might have bought it myself.

Anyway, I'm now signing off, as tomorrow I begin a 5 day driving holiday in the Scottish Highlands, taking in the West Coast, Skye, Lewis and Harris, Mull, Iona, and Staffa island, of Fingal's Cave fame. I can't wait! It's going to be great.
Regards

James
