They are still used to a certain extend but not anymore like 15-20 years ago.
Most people that use them play the royal versions.
There is a shift towards Marigaux and Rigoutat,these instruments are a little less critical concerning reeds.
But Bart Schneeman for example plays a loree from an old serie.
