... well, when I first went to rent an oboe, they did show me a plastic Selmer with same kind of hole on bell, no Bb key, which was REALLY WEIRD and new to me (since I've been out of oboe circulation awhile ...)
... was informed there are many student models like that, so Weird is pretty common
... second oboe in my band doesn't have Bb key either, plays all the other notes wow!
... theory being no beginner or new student plays Bflat for years anyway, so it was "discontinued" in the econo line of student starter instruments
... so what, you can only play to low B natural (only to low C on some models apparently, haven't seen one of those yet, is that what you've got?)
... who cares, it's the upper octave that's SO OBOE
... who needs low Bflat when you can soar up to toneful Hi C's?
