Elaine Douvas believes in American reeds with an inner tip, and with these reeds, there is a possibility of playing the top reed register like the bottom, almost, with no lip pressure, just a bit more reed in. And i have tried such a reed, and surely, it works beautifully. But this requires a very very relax embouchure, and when the reed doesnt work, the playing doesnt work as well. I don't play on American scrape reeds, but it should be interesting to know that it is highly possible for the reed to be made in such a way that eases the top register intonation wise.
