Rolling the thumb onto the back 8ve is easier with a thumbplate as there's more height: http://www.clarinetperfection.com/galleryclar/Keywork/CP2/20.jpg
So maybe if you prefer to roll your thumb, you could have a dummy thumbplate made and fitted (like the left thumb button on saxophones). Try sticking something to the back - maybe a thick clarinet mouthpiece patch or a shaped piece of cork, plastic or wood. Or have a metal one made and fitted - the large pad cup for the bell key is an ideal size.
Though I reckon all conservatoire system oboes should ideally have the back 8ve touchpiece made as thin as possible (or even have a recess into the body for the tip of the back 8ve touchpiece to locate into) and with a very thin cork on the underside so rolling the thumb can be done comfortably. Some oboes have really thick back 8ve touches with a thick cork on them so the thumb has to be lifted on and off.
