The Oboe BBoard

I paid $1900 for my used Fox. I've heard comments that I overpaid, but it was available to me at the time. You know the old saying, "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush".
The best I can describe the thumb octave key on the back of the oboe is that it looks about the same as the 2nd octave key on the side.
The key tapers a bit from top to bottom. I tend to lift my thumb on and off, but my teacher says that I can slide it off if I want.
After reading your query, I tried to position my thumb so that I can rock it on and off the octave key, and I could do that if I want to. I'm just not in the habit. I also think you could probably have it adjusted by a technician.
I hope this helps.
