The 8ve vents are placed closer together on cor than they are on oboe (compare an oboe and cor top joint and you'll see just how much difference there is) - so the upper 8ve vent is really too low for it's purpose, and as a consequence may have a larger vent hole through it (exceeding 0.85mm in some cases - on Marigaux cors the upper vent is around 0.9mm) compared to the lower 8ve vent which is between 0.7mm and 0.8mm.
Cors should really have longer top joints with shorter crooks so the upper 8ve vent is higher than it is at present, though they're all pretty much built to the same joint length ratio as they have been since Triebert's time and companies are hardly likely to change (as well as the diameter and placement of the E tonehole, being too small and too high up the joint).
A radical rethink and redesign in cor making may be the answer for the perfect cor, but it may be too radical for players who prefer tradition (and not having the multitudes of crooks to choose from off the shelf to go with the new design). But as most oboe makers concentrate on getting their oboes right first, cors take second place and d'amores are lagging behind.
