 Re: baffling EH problem

The problem with regulating cors is there's more 'going round in circles' adjusting several extra screws you won't have on oboes - as in the F# vent and the forked F vent.

The screws on the key tails of RH 2 and 3 (which hold the F vent open) are there mainly for venting and regulation of RH 2 and 3, and there should be a gap between the screw tips and the end of the F vent when they are closed so this makes sure the F vent is closed.

Then there's the link for the F# vent which has two screws on it (just like on an oboe) and these screws regulate the F# vent with RH 2 (the upper screw) and RH 3 (the lower screw). With a feeler gauge, check for equal pressure when closing RH 2 and the F# pad, and then do the same with RH 3 and the F# pad - the pressure should be the same (using light finger pressure to close the keys) under each pad - if the F# pad is light when closing RH 2, then the upper screw on the link needs to be tightened. If the F# vent is heavier than both RH 2 and 3, then the adjusing screw on the F# vent itself needs backing off.

It's easier for me to demonstrate than to describe on here - but the right hand main action on cors is the most time consuming part when regulating - and even worse on pro models with the more complex rocker mechanism on the F vent and the link from the C key (which closes the F vent to give better venting for the lower altissimo register).

Even more tricky to regulate is a full German spec cor - fully automatic octaves (as on saxes, but more complex in design and up to 6 adjusting screws!), any of the right hand fingers can be used for Bb and C ('conservatoire 1-2-3 mechanism'), low B-C link and an F resonance key which opens with the cross F key and LH F key on the opposite side of the body to the F vent.
