ohsuzan - glad that you got through the concert without big problems.
I'm just throw this in here...I noticed that on the hot days like we had last week, my reed kept drying out very quickly causing some playing problems. The reed that was soaking was fine, it was the one in my mouth that kept drying out. Being hot, my mouth kept getting very dry and that was affecting the reed.
Of course, the sweat running down my face also had an effect, my glasses kept fogging up - when they weren't slipping down my nose. I think that there is a product that keeps glass from fogging up. It's made for bathroom mirrors. Anyone tried that? My hands were sweating and slipping on the keys. I need to keep a rag or something in my case for that. I hadn't thought of that as a problem since I started playing last fall and it was cool.
Body problems - 3
reed problems (due to body problems) - 1
unknown reed problems due to heat and humity - ?
The big question though is how do you compensate for this??? Drink more water? In the normal world, you could wear lighter weight clothing but when you play concert, you sometimes get stuck in jackets with ties. ACCKK! My hat is off to anyone who can play the oboe well with a tie around their neck.
