I believe I had studied oboe for just over a year when I purchased my first professional level instrument, also a Marigaux. (serial 8920, I think), Back in the 70s. I was 14 or 15, and I knew enough about my playing to judge one instrument superior to others I had tried. So if you are comfortable judging your own sound, you can probably make the call yourself, as to which oboe will suit your needs.
