I would be interested to hear how fellow BBoarders approach tieing your shaped cane onto staples.
Do you tie to a given length?
Does that vary with other parameters such as tube cane diameter?
I've been told the Sprenkle advice to tie longest for max opening is incorrect. So, the opposite is true, at least for 10.5 - 11 mm cane diameters... how do you see that part of the equation?
Do you tie to close? (Meaning do you stop winding thread after closing the cane on the staple tube even if another millimeter or two of staple tube extends above the closing, or continue winding close to the staple length?)
Staple length is a variable here so what is your staple length?
Shape is a variable so what shaper do you use?
What other things do you hold dear and what other variables do you consider and attempt to control in the tieing aspect of reed making?
What do you do with the reed immediately post tieing? (Scrape tip and clip, scrape tip , clip and slip the blades, etc.?)
(Sorry, another blizzard in Colorado has me both facing cabin fever and day dreaming about oboe reeds again...)
Gracias from Colorado,
-Craig
