Bundy Selmer as a starter oboe?

The Bundy Selmers on ebay don't seem to have the left F key or a hole in the bell. Are they still okay for a starter oboe? I may try a month or two and give up. I am not ready to commit hundreds to a thousand for an oboe yet.

A related question. What about Chartier synthetic reed? A good match with the Bundy? Thanks.
