It was very interesting and helpful to read about the choices that susan made in her first year. That will keep me from going that direction. And I do agree with bobo an jhoyla on buying an oboe that suits my financial situation.
Combined parts of your messages made me realize that I'll probably end up with at two oboes in the long run. I was thinking of getting a Buffet Greenline first because I like the concept how those are made, and the fact that it will not crack. Also this oboe need not be broken in, and can be stored for longer periods. The Marigaux Altuglas can be an alternative to the Greenline, I did see a dark/smoked version with silver keys somewhere on the net, but it may not be available yet, and can't find the page anymore. The Clear/Gold combo is just not me ;-). Both oboes supposedly sound very well, the Marigaux perhaps a bit better, but not much info is available yet on that one.
The second one will probably be bought when I'm a lot further down the road and have developed my taste for a specific sound. The Greenline/Altuglas can be a very good sidekick while breaking in that oboe, or to be played on when the other one goes to the workshop and vice versa.
For now I still plan to rent for a year, to at least acquire some taste and judgement on the Greenline/Altuglas scenario and hopefully sort things out with my regular teacher.
