I may be completely wrong (being something of a beginner at reed making), but although they look superficially the same, they are slightly different. I think the French and British gradually taper down to the tip, whereas the German only tapers slightly, staying quite thick at the heart, with a more sudden drop to the tip (similar to the American). You can see the difference if you look at them side-on.
Not sure about the difference between French and British, is the French just thinner?
David Ledet, 'Oboe Reed Styles', is an interesting read if you can get hold of it, although he gets a bit technical.
