Nah, I do know enough to wet the reed.
By this time.
"Subconsciously compensating for intonation issues" sounds about right. The minute I started to play it, I was hit by, "Plastic. It sounds...plastic." Which is weird because my Fox is plastic, too. But the Selmer sounds...thin and plastic in a way the Fox doesn't.
I've practiced while breathless from rushing upstairs before, and that doesn't tire out my embouchure--it just means I'm, well, breathless. So I stop and sit there for a minute and breathe, after answering the phone or whatever, and then things are OK. But this was different, this was like when I'd been playing the oboe for only a few months and would almost immediately get to a point where the mouth muscles just would. not. hold it.
Anyway, the leakiness apparently explains the weird gurgling, bubbling noises I'm getting occasionally from the lower C, D, and E, so I guess the leak is down at that end, eh?
